Lie derivations of -subspace lattice algebras

We describe the structure of Lie derivations of -subspace lattice algebras. The results can apply to atomic Boolean subspace lattice algebras and pentagon subspace lattice algebras, respectively.

     

Quasilinear elliptic equations with BMO coefficients in Lipschitz domains

We obtain a global estimate for the weak solution to an elliptic partial differential equation of -Laplacian type with BMO coefficients in a Lipschitz domain with small Lipschitz constant.

     

Morava -theory of extraspecial -groups

We compute the Morava -theory of some extraspecial 2-groups and associated compact groups.

     

Minimal 2-complexes and the D(2)-problem

We show that when there is a minimal algebraic -complex over the quaternion group which is not homotopy equivalent to the Cayley complex of the standard minimal presentation. This raises the possibility that Wall's D(2)-property might fail for .

     

-bounding and -induction

Working in the base theory of , we show that for all , the bounding principle for -formulas ( ) is equivalent to the induction principle for -formulas ( ). This partially answers a question of J. Paris.

     

A criterion for satellite 1-genus 1-bridge knots

Let be a knot in a closed orientable irreducible 3-manifold . Suppose admits a genus 1 Heegaard splitting and we denote by the splitting torus. We say is a -genus -bridge splitting of if intersects transversely in two points, and divides into two pairs of a solid torus and a boundary parallel arc in it. It is known that a -genus -bridge splitting of a satellite knot admits a satellite diagram disjoint from an essential loop on the splitting torus. If and the slope of the loop is longitudinal in one of the solid tori, then is obtained by twisting a component of a -bridge link along the other component. We give a criterion for determining whether a given -genus -bridge splitting of a knot admits a satellite diagram of a given slope or not. As an application, we show there exist counter examples for a conjecture of Ait Nouh and Yasuhara.

     

There is no separable universal -factor

Gromov constructed uncountably many pairwise nonisomorphic discrete groups with Kazhdan's property . We will show that no separable -factor can contain all these groups in its unitary group. In particular, no separable -factor can contain all separable -factors in it. We also show that the full group -algebras of some of these groups fail the lifting property.

Products of images

Let be the \u{C}ech-Stone remainder . We show that there exists a large class of images of such that whenever is a subset of of cardinality at most the continuum, then is again an image of . The class contains all separable compact spaces, all compact spaces of weight at most and all perfectly normal compact spaces.

     

Nonnormal spaces with countable extent

Examples of spaces are constructed for which is not normal but all closed discrete subsets are countable. A monolithic example is constructed in ZFC and a separable first countable example is constructed using .
